Len Mattiace wins The Nissan Open And Moves Up An Enormous 102 Places To World No. 55; Rookie Nicholas Lawrence Wins The Tour Championship But Tim Clark Takes The South African Order Of Merit

Len Mattiace claimed his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Nissan Open at the Riviera Country Club in California this week. The victory moves Mattiace up 102 spots to World No.55 and up to 8th in the 2002 PGA Tour money list. South-Africa’s Rory Sabbatini was one of 3 runners-up and he advances 14 places and into the World Top-50 at No.47 whilst Brad Faxon and Scott McCarron both consolidate their places in the Top-50 by moving to World No. 36 and No.33 respectively. Japans Toru Taniguchi recorded his best finish of 2002 by finishing in outright 5th and Toru is now No.53 in the world.

Although he didn’t play this week, Retief Goosen swapped places with David Toms and now occupies his highest position ever at No.6 in the world.

The Sunshine Tour this week moved onto the season-ending Tour Championship at the Leopard Creek Country Club where Nicholas Lawrence claimed a maiden victory in only his fourth month as a professional. The 21-year old Rookie finished with a 14-under par tournament total one shot clear of both Bruce Vaughan and Tim Clark. Nicholas moves up to No.323 in the world. Tim Clarks finish was enough for him to win the 2002 South African Order of Merit with R1,669,900 while England’s Justin Rose finished in the runner-up spot.

On the Davidoff Tour in Asia, Harmeet Kahlon won the Hero Honda Masters at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi, India. Harmeet is now No.529= in the World.
