The Governing Board of the Official World Golf Ranking, comprised of representatives from the Augusta National Golf Club, the United States Golf Association, The R&A, the PGA of America, the PGA TOUR, the European Tour and the International Federation of PGA Tours under the Chairmanship of Sir Michael Bonallack, met at the 2010 Open Championship at St. Andrews and approved the following directives:
The Governing Board requested that the Asian Tour should nominate a new event for re-instatement of Flagship status in 2010 and/or 2011, likely to be its season ending championship. The Board also agreed that the European Challenge Tour, in keeping with the other Tours, should have a Flagship event and approved a proposal that the 2010 Apulia San Domenico Grand Final should receive Flagship status with 16 ranking points to the winner. The Board also asked the Technical Committee to investigate whether the Canadian Tour should be considered for a Flagship event.
The Board agreed that the OneAsia Tour should continue to not have pre-determined minimum points allocation but rather shall receive the lowest ranking points allocation in the current OWGR structure (6 OWGR points for 1st place with ranking points down to 6th place, if the strength of field is favourable additional Ranking points based on World and Home Rating points would be available). The Board also agreed that the KPGA (Korean Golf Tour) and the TLA (Tour de Las Americas) should also be incorporated into the Ranking system from January 1 2011 on the same basis once the Technical Committee has liaised with the Tours concerned to establish their player listings and schedules.
The Board agreed that the co-sanctioned PGA TOUR/Asian Tour CIMB Asia Pacific Classic due to be played in Malaysia in October this year should receive Official World Golf Ranking points. Although it will not be included in the Official Money Lists, the limited field event of 40 players will include the leading available Top-25 players from PGA TOUR’s final FedEx Cup standings and the Top-10 available players from the Asian Tour Order of Merit. The field will be made up from the winners of two qualifying events in Malaysia plus three sponsor’s invitations. The Board had some concern that if there is any proliferation of Limited Field events there should be more specific guidelines in the future, and asked the Technical Committee to review this before the next meeting.
