Martin Kaymer has moved to World Number Two after winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship for the third time in four years by an eight shot margin over Rory McIlroy. The 26 year old, five clear of McIlroy with a round to go, closed with a 66 for a tournament-record 24 under par total of 268. The last time a pair of Europeans filled the top two positions in the Official World Golf Ranking was Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer 18 years ago.

Jhonattan Vegas became the first player from Venezuela to win on tour after a three-man play-off with defending champion Bill Haas and fellow rookie Gary Woodland. The trio had finished tied on 27 under after Haas closed with a 66 to catch the overnight joint-leaders, who both carded 69s. Victory came on the second extra hole after Haas dropped out of the Play-Off after Vegas and Woodland started with birdie 4s. Vegas made par after finding the water off the tee and this was good enough for the win in only his fifth PGA Tour start.He jumps 101 places to World Number 86.
