Ludvig Åberg’s runaway win at The RSM Classic moves him to 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking

Åberg won The RSM Classic on Sunday in record-setting fashion, shooting 29-under 253 (67-64-61-61) to win by four shots over Mackenzie Hughes. Åberg tied the lowest 72-hole total in TOUR history, matching the winning score of Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii.

News for the 7 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

PGA Tour - The RSM Classic

There is an incredible simplicity to Ludvig Åberg’s game. If asked to render the ideal golf swing, artificial intelligence would generate something similar to Åberg’s action. His move is so textbook that it lacks idiosyncrasy. In an era where players will twist, turn and push in any direction to squeeze out an extra mile per hour of clubhead speed, Åberg’s swing is devoid of strain. His metronomic tempo never wavers, and his club never strays from the ideal plane.

Åberg won The RSM Classic on Sunday in record-setting fashion, shooting 29-under 253 (67-64-61-61) to win by four shots over Mackenzie Hughes. Åberg tied the lowest 72-hole total in TOUR history, matching the winning score of Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii, and set the record for lowest score over a tournament’s final two rounds. His final 54 holes also set a TOUR record for lowest score over three consecutive rounds.

Åberg has played 14 professional events since turning pro in June out of Texas Tech, and he has already won two of them. He was victorious earlier this year on the DP World Tour, in the process becoming the quickest player to compete in a Ryder Cup after turning pro. He’s finished outside the top 25 just three times as a pro. His worst finish in his last eight worldwide starts is T14. In addition to his two wins, he also has a runner-up where he lost in a playoff, at the Sanderson Farms Championship, and was the 54-hole leader at the DP World Tour’s top event, the BMW PGA Championship (he eventually finished 10th).

“It’s been so much fun,” Åberg said. “I still pinch myself in the morning when I wake up to … realize that this is what I do for a job.”

DP World Tour - DP World Tour Championship

Nicolai Højgaard won his first Rolex Series title as a back-nine birdie barrage saw him sign for a closing 64 and a two-shot victory at the DP World Tour Championship. The Dane had led after days one and two at Jumeirah Golf Estates but entered the final round three shots off the pace before pulling himself right into contention with a front nine of 33.

He was back on top with a gain on the tenth and then reeled off five birdies in a row from the 13th to get to 21 under and hold off the challenge of his Ryder Cup team-mates Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland and overnight leader Matt Wallace.

Fleetwood and Hovland signed for a pair of 68s, one shot less than Wallace, to sit two ahead of defending champion Jon Rahm, South Africa's Thriston Lawrence and Frenchman Matthieu Pavon.

Højgaard finished fourth over the Earth Course in his only previous appearance at this event in 2021, catapulting himself into the top ten on that season's final Rankings and he will finish 2023 second behind Race to Dubai champion Rory McIlroy.

While becoming an international player and starting his career on the PGA TOUR this year, he recorded seven DP World Tour top tens to earn his place in Europe's Ryder Cup team, winning half a point as Luke Donald's men defeated the United States.

He added to that tally by finishing second at last week's Nedbank Golf Challenge and brought that form to Dubai, where he is now a three-time DP World Tour champion and enters the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time.

“It means a lot, it’s the sweetest one," he said.

“So much hard work has been put in over the past couple of years – it feels amazing, this is for family and everything they put in over the years. So much hard work going into this, for it to happen like this is unbelievable.

“We know there are a lot of birdies but we have to hit the shots and hole the putts, anything can happen we were just focused on the job today, to walk up 18 knowing there’s a good chance feels good.

Asian Tour - BNI Indonesian Masters presented by Tunas Niaga Energi

Gaganjeet Bhullar produced a virtuoso performance to win the US$1.5 million BNI Indonesian Masters presented by TNE today, for his fifth title on Indonesian soil and the fourth wire-to-wire win of his career on the Asian Tour.

The 35-year-old from Amritsar eagled the par-five 18th here at Royale Jakarta Golf Club for a closing four-under-par 67 to finish on 24-under, which was five shots ahead of second-placed Karandeep Kochhar, also from India.

Ben Campbell from New Zealand, winner of the Hong Kong Open last Sunday, and Spaniard David Puig shot rounds of 65 and 66 respectively to claim third place, six back of Bhullar – in the final event of the season on The International Series, the set of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour.

It marks the first time Bhullar has raised this trophy, and it will proudly sit alongside three Indonesian Open wins and one Indonesia President Invitational title. Plus it is the 11th win of his career on the Asian Tour – the most by an Indian, with Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa next best with eight titles. it’s also his first victory since winning the Mandiri Indonesia Open in August of last year.

PGA Tour of Australasia - Victorian PGA Championship

David Micheluzzi has overcome a seven shot deficit early in the final round to stage an incredible come-from-behind win the 2023 Vic PGA at Moonah Links. After a break-out season last year, winning three times and claiming the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, his latest win further outlines Micheluzzi as one of the most exciting emerging Australian talents.

Recording a final round four-under 68 to finish on a total of 14-under, Micheluzzi edged out Ben Eccles by a solitary stroke. His latest win not without some hiccups along the way.

The Victorian started the day six shots behind Kazuma Kobori, and after a double bogey on the second, he found himself even further behind. Bouncing back quickly, Micheluzzi birdied his next three holes, and as he edged closer, Kobori finally slowed.

At the turn, Kobori’s six-shot lead was gone, the Kiwi and Micheluzzi tied at the top, with Eccles in the group ahead making moves of his own.

After four bogeys, Kobori’s first birdie came at the par-5 13th keeping hope of a first Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia win alive, but three more bogeys coming in put an end to his chances. Kobori’s impeccable golf in the first three rounds, in just his second tournament as a professional, showing why the young Kiwi is going to be a force to be reckoned with in future events.

As Kobori struggled coming home, Micheluzzi added four more birdies against a solitary dropped shot, with a bogey at the par-4 15th signalling the end of Eccles’ charge and yet another trophy for the man known as Micha’s mantlepiece.

This win particularly special in his home state and in front of friends and family. Something Micheluzzi has been dreaming of since he was a child.

“I’m stoked with how everything went, and yeah to have friends and family here just tops everything,” he said. “The putter got so hot, it’s probably the best I’ve putted in quite a long time.”

Japan Golf Tour - Dunlop Phoenix Tournament

Yuta Sugiura made history at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament by becoming the first-ever amateur champion in the event's landmark 50th edition, and the only seventh amateur winner in JGTO history, on Sunday.

Displaying remarkable composure, the 22-year-old rebounded twice from setbacks in the early and mid-rounds, concluding with an even-par 71 at the Phoenix Country Club. He secured victory with a three-shot lead over JGTO heavyweights Taiga Semikawa and Keita Nakajima.

This triumph now positions Sugiura among the illustrious winners in the tournament's history, joining the likes of Tiger Woods, Masashi Jumbo Ozaki, Ernie Els, Luke Donald, Brooks Koepka, and Hideki Matsuyama.

"I'm really happy. It was a goal I've had for a long time, and I'm truly happy to have achieved it in my last match as an amateur," said Sugiura, who swiftly declared that he was turning professional.

"What makes this victory extra special is that the tournament is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and there were also many foreign stars participating. It's truly a wonderful tournament.

Asian Development Tour - Toyota Tour Championship

Suttinon Panyo played consistent golf as he led from wire-to-wire to win the prestigious Toyota Tour Championship co-sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour, by a comfortable three strokes over India’s Khalin Joshi at Saujana Golf & Country Club here today.

The 20-year-old Suttinon, ranked ninth in Thailand, was never threatened by flight mates Joshi and Malaysia’s Galven Green, whose two-over 74 dropped him to joint fourth at eight- under 280, alongside Newport Laparojkit of Thailand and fellow Malaysian Paul San.

Witchayanon Chothirunrungrueng finished alone in third three strokes behind Joshi, at 279. Suttinon, who aced the second hole dubbed the “monster” during yesterday’s third round, carded a two-under 70 on Saujana’s Palm Course, to add to the 67, 69 and 67 rounds he had had earlier.

After receiving his trophy from UMW Toyota Motor deputy chairman Takeshi Obata, Suttinon declared he will compete in the ADT season-ending Aramco Saudi Invitational starting in 11 days, in a bid to solidify his position on the ADT Order of Merit.

After today’s victory, Suttinon jumped 26 spots in the ADT Order of Merit and is now ranked ninth. The top 10 finishers in the ADT Order of Merit will gain Asian Tour cards.

Big Easy Tour - Altron Big Easy Tour 6

Andrew Williamson produced yet another fine round of golf on Thursday when he carded a four-under-par 68 in the final round of the Altron Big Easy Tour to claim his first professional win on 13-under-par 203 at Blue Valley Golf Estate.

That total handed him a three-shot victory over Zambia’s Dayne Moore and LB Boshoff.

The Irene Golf Club member brought a one-stroke lead into the final round and needed a strong start in the final round to keep his momentum. Three birdies in the first five holes provided Williamson with a strong enough start and after making pars on the sixth and seventh, he found more joy as he birdied the par-three eighth.

Just before the turn, however, Williamson made his third bogey of what was a strong three days for the 28-year-old from Irene. In a similar fashion, as he has done all week, Williamson bounced back with a birdie after that drop. Those gains were made on the par-four 11th. From there on, Williamson kept things cool while managing tricky situations with the mastery of a seasoned professional.

“It’s difficult to put it into words right now,” said an emotional Williamson of how he felt about his maiden Tour victory. “Golf is a funny game; I haven’t played much tournament golf in the last few months, apart from the odd Big Easy here or there. I’ve been really busy with work, and just getting out on the golf course has been a struggle in the last few months.

“My goal for the week was just to enjoy the game because, with the way my golf has been going the last few years, it’s easy to dig yourself into a rut and not appreciate the small victories. One of those is just enjoying the game for what it is and this week, I did that. The results took care of themselves. So, sometimes less is more.”
