PGA Tour of Australasia / DP World Tour-Fortinet Australian PGA Championship

Cameron Smith has joined the greats of Australian golf with a third Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club. Sunday roars for his three-stroke victory at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland was also acclaim for his fifth win across the globe this year.

No pro golfer in the world has sustained the excellence for longer in 2022; from his opening round 65 at The Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in early January to Sunday’s 68 in Brisbane.

This year, Smith has also celebrated victories at THE PLAYERS Championship, often called the fifth major, the glorious Open Championship triumph when he jumped by Rory McIlroy at St Andrews, and LIV Chicago.

It’s been a brilliant stretch. Even Smith seemed a little in awe of it during his celebration speech on the 18th green when he thanked his team.

“Who would have thought 10 months ago we’d have five wins,” Smith said.

Japan Golf Tour -Casio World Open Golf Tournament

Dominant Kim storms to victory, despite making only a handful of appearances on JGTO this year, it did not stop reigning money list winner Chan Kim from challenging himself to win at least a title.

On Sunday, it was a mission accomplished for the 32-year-old as he secured his eighth JGTO title with a wire-to-wire win at the Casio World Open. Kim did it in an emphatic fashion, firing a 10-under-par 62 on route to compiling a jaw-dropping total score of 32-under 256 - the lowest-ever 72-hole score in the JGTO history.

Kim's splendid effort also saw him effortlessly smash the previous tournament record of 24-under by eight strokes and finish six shots ahead of second-placed Aguri Iwasaki.

“For the final round, I wanted to play well and was hoping to get to 30-under. I knew if I could do that, I would win,” said Kim, who smashed the previous best 72-hole score of 28-under set by South Korea’s In-hoi Hur at the Toshin Golf Tournament.

“I’m so happy it went so well and I managed to break the JGTO scoring record for the 72-hole. I hope it will remain for a very long time,” said a delighted Kim.

Professional Golf Tour of India - Dream Valley Group presents Vooty Masters

Manu Gandas seals thumping four-shot win at Dream Valley Group presents Vooty Masters 2022, earning a record fifth title of the season and equals record for lowest winning total on the PGTI.

Yuvraj Singh Sandhu matches course record 63 to finish fourth and maintain his lead in the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking. Manu Gandas of Gurugram sealed a thumping four-shot win after a nerveless final round display of six-under 66 at the inaugural Dream Valley Group presents Vooty Masters, a Rs. 1 crore event played at the Vooty Golf County in Vikarabad, Telangana.

Manu (63-68-67-66), the overnight leader by one shot, totaled 24-under 264 for the week to register his fifth win of 2022 and thus match the PGTI record for most wins in a season, a record previously jointly held by Yuvraj Singh Sandhu (2022), Gaganjeet Bhullar (2009) and Ashok Kumar (2006-07). In the process, Gandas also equaled the PGTI record for the lowest winning total (24-under 264) set earlier by Anirban Lahiri, Rashid Khan and Akshay Sharma.

Gandas took home the winning cheque worth Rs. 15,00,000 to consolidate himself in second position in the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking as his prize money earnings for the season moved to Rs. 65,78,938.

Manu said, “I took one shot at a time and stayed in the present. I had a bad start on the back-nine but was steady thereafter and set up a lot of birdie opportunities for myself. Overall, it was a solid round barring a couple of mistakes.

“I tend to get a bit aggressive as the round progresses, but I managed to keep that tendency in check. I kept my composure well.

Sunshine Tour / DP World Tour - Joburg Open

A dream win for Bradbury in Joburg Open England’s Dan Bradbury claimed a wire-to-wire victory in the Joburg Open for his first DP World Tour title in only his third start at Houghton Golf Club on Sunday, and one of his first priorities was to find somewhere to get his laundry done. A one-week trip to South Africa had suddenly become the start of a new career.

Playing on a sponsor’s invitation into the Joburg Open and with no status on any tour anywhere in the world, Bradbury took his chance from day one and never looked back as he closed out his maiden professional title with a final round of 67 to win by three strokes on 21 under par.

“I was meant to be on a flight out this evening but happily that’s changed. I didn’t even pack enough clothes for more than one week. I’ve got the kids here asking for my cap but I only packed one for each day,” said a delighted Bradbury, who now moves on to this week’s Investec South African Open.

Bradbury also secured himself a spot in his first Major as one of the three leading professionals who qualified from this event for next year’s 151st Open at Royal Liverpool. Välimäki took the second spot, with Bezuidenhout taking the third by virtue of his higher world ranking over Van Tonder.

“I can’t tell you how it feels because it hasn’t sunk in yet. It means the world to me,” said Bradbury, who struggled to process just what this week has meant to him. “I wouldn’t have anywhere to play in the world without this. It’s been life changing. I’m going to play everything. I love playing.”

Bradbury moves up the Official World Golf Rankings considerably after his win this week, moving him to his best position in the rankings now ranked 551st.

Asian Tour - Bangabandhu Cup Golf Bangladesh Open

Relieved Danthai claims first win in seven years at Bangabandhu Cup Golf Bangladesh Open. Thailand’s Danthai Boonma won the US$400,000 Bangabandhu Cup Golf Bangladesh Open today after an enthralling two-horse race with close friend and compatriot Kosuke Hamamoto. He last won the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship on the Asian Development Tour in 2016.

Danthai fired a closing three-under-par 68 at Kurmitola Golf Club, in Dhaka, for a four-round aggregate of 13-under-par 271 and a one-shot victory over Hamamoto, who carded a 70. Danthai started the day one behind playing partner Hamamoto but a brilliant front nine of three under, which included birdies on seven, eight and nine saw him make the turn one ahead.

It was a lead he did not relinquish, with both players coming home in even par, and allowed him to add the National Open of Bangladesh to The World Classic Championship he claimed at Laguna National in Singapore in 2015.

“I’m so excited about my second win on the Asian Tour,” said Danthai, who dined out with Hamamoto for much of the week.

“Yeah, nothing to say but I can’t believe it, because it’s been tough in the past two years, I didn’t really play very good you know. I mean, I struggled with my mind and my short game, so I tried to figure out about those things. And yeah, I can’t believe it about this week.”

Asian Development Tour - PKNS Selangor Masters

Malaysia’s Shahriffuddin Ariffin showed steely determination to clinch victory at the PKNS Selangor Masters today, shrugging off a double bogey on the par-five 13th hole to face down Thailand’s Denwit Boriboonsub at the finish.

Denwit, who started the day tied with Ariffin (275) at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor, was unable to take advantage of his playing partner’s misstep on 13, and instead posted a string of dropped shots in the closing holes as he watched his title chance slip away.

The pair, who had traded birdies and bogeys to remain in lockstep throughout most of the day at the US$150,000 Asian Development Tour event, were eventually parted in the finishing stretch. Denwit finished in second, two shots back of Ariffin with 277.
