PGA Tour - THE CJ CUP in South Carolina

Rory McIlroy capped off his steady march back to No. 1 in the world on Sunday with an explosive burst of three birdies late in the round to hold off Kurt Kitayama and win THE CJ CUP in South Carolina.

Tied with Kitayama with five holes to go at Congaree, McIlroy, the reigning FedExCup champion, ran off three straight birdies to seize control and finished with two bogeys, hardly enough to ruin the moment. He closed with a 4-under 67 for a one-shot victory.

McIlroy, who finished at 17-under 267, won for the 23rd time on the PGA TOUR and 31st time worldwide.

It was his ninth time reaching No. 1 in the world, behind only Tiger Woods and Greg Norman (both 11) in getting to the top of the ranking the most times.

This was no less special, and it showed when McIlroy's voice choked ever so slightly with emotion after he won.

“I've worked so hard over the last 12 months to get back to this place,” McIlroy said. “I feel like I'm enjoying the game as much as I ever have. I played with that joy and it's definitely showed over these last few months.

“It's a big achievement. I'm really proud of myself right now.”

DP World Tour - Mallorca Golf Open

Rookie Yannik Paul claimed his maiden DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion after holing a clutch birdie putt at the 18th to win by a single shot. On an afternoon of twists and turns, Paul had been in the driving seat on the back nine before a two-shot swing at the 15th handed his playing partner Marcus Armitage a two-stroke lead with three holes to play. But Armitage dropped three shots over the next two holes and Paul coolly slotted in his difficult 15-foot birdie try from the fringe at the last to deny Paul Waring and Nicolai von Dellingshausen a play-off. "I'm speechless, honestly, I'm just so happy," he said. "My girlfriend and I, we worked a lot on my mental side and we were dreaming that she would be here for my first win, and she's here now, it's unbelievable."

Japan Golf Tour -Japan Open Golf Championship

Field Rating - 5.01603

Major champion, Adam Scott carded a final round of one-over-par 71 in tough conditions to tie for sixth alongside American Chan Kim on two-over-par 282, 12 shots behind young gun Taiga Semikawa who survived a late scare to become the Championship's only second amateur winner in its 87-year history.

The thrilling final day saw Semikawa hang tough to stave off a charging Kazuki Higa and secure a two-shot win over the latter. Having built a comfortable six-shot lead over Higa heading into Sunday's finale, it looked as if Semikawa was going to cruise to an effortless victory when he birdied the first two holes to race eight ahead. But Semikawa flirted with danger after squandering four shots just before the turn, which included a triple bogey at the par-four ninth. Another bogey dropped at the 17th saw Semikawa's lead being trimmed to just two, but he held his nerve to save par at the last to sensationally seal his second JGTO victory on the trot.

It came just three weeks after he pulled off a stunning win at the Panasonic Open.

"Now that I have won twice, I'm going to raise the bar even higher and expect even more from myself," said Semikawa.

"Winning the Panasonic Open and now the Japan Open has changed my perspectives and mindset.

"I want to build on this. My dream is to win all four majors."

Nordic Golf League - Sydbank Road to Europe Final - by Møn Golfresort

A three-metre putt on the 18th green was the difference between a Challenge Tour card and a buck when the Sydbank Road to Europe final was played at Møn Golf Resort. There was both the victory at the season finale to play for, but to that extent there was also excitement about who would take the last two Challenge Tour cards.

The tournament victory went to a great player Jeppe Kristian Andersen, who had a terrific end to his round, and put the competitors on the wall. The Asserbo player, who went a round in 65 strokes, thus won the season finale by four strokes to the nearest pursuers.

Professional Golf Tour of India -Pune Open Golf Championship

Gurugram’s Veer Ahlawat prevailed by three shots at the Pune Open Golf Championship 2022 to lift his second professional trophy. Veer struck a solid four-under 62 in the final round at the Poona Club Golf Course to end up with a tournament tally of 19-under 245. With this win Veer has jumped six spots on the Tata Steel PGTI Order of Merit for 2022 to be placed at 11th position. Delhi’s Kapil Kumar finished second at 16-under 248 carding a two-under 64 in the final round today.

Ahlawat (63-59-61-62), the overnight leader by one shot, made a tentative start with a birdie and bogey on the second and third holes. The tall and lanky Veer then stepped on the gas with birdies on the seventh, ninth, 10th and 11th to build a lead that gave him little to worry. His bogey on the 17th followed by a birdie on the 18th hole helped to seal his name on the winner’s cheque today.

“My last win as a pro was three years back and ever since I came close but could never finish it off. This win today makes me and my team very happy that our hard work has paid off. I am very satisfied with my short game and my chipping specifically, and that I think, played a critical role in my performance today,” said Veer Ahlawat, who last won on the PGTI at Digboi in NOvember 2019.

EuroPro Tour - The Matchroom Tour Championship

James Allan Crowns Stellar Year with Third Seasonal Victory at The Matchroom Tour Championship. Allan has become the highest annual earner in PGA EuroPro Tour history, having triumphed in The Matchroom Tour Championship. He is joined by Michael Stewart, Dermot McElroy, Jack Davidson and Josh Hilleard in progressing to the Challenge Tour.

When James Allan recorded his second win of the campaign at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate in August, his presence on next season’s Challenge Tour was confirmed.

The 28-year-old was the runaway leader throughout the year, and his ever-reliable golf game stood up to so many questions. Moments after his second triumph, Allan was quick to admit that the goal was to finish the season in style and close out the summer as the PGA EuroPro Tour’s number one player.

Fast-forward 77 days, or exactly 11 weeks, and that ambition would transition into reality as Allan lifted The Matchroom Tour Championship trophy alongside the coveted Order of Merit award.

“It feels absolutely amazing. It really is an honour to win the PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit and see some amazing names on that trophy. “To be the highest earner in the tour’s history is a little bonus, but I am over the moon to have capped it off because I really wanted it this week.”

The PGA EuroPro Tour has developed renowned talents such as Tommy Fleetwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Tyrrell Hatton, Aaron Rai and Marcus Armitage to name just a few.

PGA Tour of Australasia - CKB WA PGA Championship presented by TX Civil & Logistics

Victorian Deyen Lawson has survived a nervous back-nine wobble to win the Nexus Advisernet WA Open in Perth by two strokes. From his opening day eight-under 62 Lawson’s name sat atop the leaderboard, arriving at The Western Australian Golf Club on Sunday with an eight-shot advantage.

That lead got to as much as nine on the front nine of the final round yet two back-nine bogeys and a double bogey three holes from home brought 2019 champion Michael Sim to within four. When Sim holed a birdie putt from five feet on 18 Lawson’s lead was just two as he lined up his second shot from the left rough.

His trusty 3-wood put him within 20 metres of the front of the green, a chip and two putts ending a nerve-wracking round of one-over 71 for a two-shot win and a first victory on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

“It’s not easy. It never is. I’ve won some smaller events and it’s never easy,” said Lawson, a four-time runner-up on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

Sim’s equal-best round of the day – six-under 64 – earned him outright second at 18-under, Queenslander Chris Wood (66) third at 16-under and Sydney amateur Jeffrey Guan (68) fourth, his best finish in a professional event and winner of the Terry Gale Cup as low amateur.

Sunshine Tour - Blue Label Challenge

Dylan Naidoo is acknowledged as one of the most talented young golfers in the country and the 24-year-old backed this up when he claimed his maiden Sunshine Tour title on Friday as he won the SunBet Challenge hosted by Sun Sibaya at Umhlali Country Club by two shots.

“The most important thing is that I felt I had the win coming. I’ve been playing very well for the last few weeks. It’s the culmination of having really good processes and discipline out on the course.

Naidoo began the final round two shots off the lead and settled himself with a wonderful front nine that was bogey-free and featured back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes. But he was still a couple of shots behind Luke Brown until a brilliant eagle on the 489m par-five 10th saw the former Big Easy Tour golfer vault strongly into contention. Naidoo then targeted the short par-fours on the back nine, picking up birdies on three of them, and dropping a shot on the 15th, which he described as “a good bogey”.

A pair of birdies on 16 and 17 beat back the tentacles of the chasing golfers trying to reach him at the top of the leaderboard.
