PGA Tour – Fortinet Championship

Sahith Theegala made more than enough birdies to cover for his mistakes while playing with the lead on Sunday, shooting a 4-under 68 for a two-shot victory at the Fortinet Championship, his first win in 74 starts on the PGA TOUR.

The 25-year-old Theegala, who began the day with a two-shot lead, pulled away by playing his first five holes in 3 under while being followed by a large, jubilant group of friends and relatives, including his parents.

“No matter the good golf or the bad golf, they just have my back. It's a team win,” Theegala said, his mom and dad by his side on the 18th green. “It's not just a win for me, it's a win for the whole family.”

Theegala finished with seven birdies and three bogeys, including one after he hit a tee shot that landed in a fairway bunker on a different hole. With a three-shot lead, he hit his drive and his layup into the rough on the par-5 18th hole and tapped in for a 6. He finished at 21-under 267.

Ryan Fox won his first Rolex Series title as he birdied the last to post a closing 67 and lift the trophy at the BMW PGA Championship. The New Zealander entered the day three shots off the lead and when he made a triple-bogey on the difficult third, he could have been forgiven for thinking that his chance had gone. But he picked up two birdies on the front nine to turn in 36 and then came home in 31, birdieing the par-five 18th from six feet after laying up, to finish at 18 under, one clear of home favourites Tyrrell Hatton and Aaron Rai.

World Number Three Jon Rahm was 16 under after a 68, one ahead of Ryder Cup team-mate Viktor Hovland and two clear of another Ryder Cup player in Tommy Fleetwood. Korn Ferry Tour – Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation

Grayson Murray trusts his talent. It’s an attitude that he feels has kept him from realizing his career potential. After a session with fear management instructor Tony Blauer earlier this month, Murray’s attitude was rock-solid amidst demanding conditions at this week’s Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation. It led to his third career Korn Ferry Tour title, as Murray carded 17-under 271 at The Grove for a three-stroke victory over Mason Andersen, Jamie Lovemark and his high school golf teammate Carter Jenkins.

The victory cements Murray’s spot in the top 30 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, finalized after next month’s Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance, improving his PGA TOUR status for the 2024 season. Murray also jumps 20 spots to No. 6 on the Points List and will have a chance at the No. 1 spot across the next two events, which provides fully exempt TOUR status in 2024 and secures eligibility for THE PLAYERS Championship and the U.S. Open – contested at Pinehurst No. 2 in his home state of North Carolina.

“This is what we live for,” Murray said as he processed his victory at The Grove. “I didn’t see myself in this position, but you can always work hard and follow your goals, and that’s what I did. It’s just a testament to a lot of hard work.

“I think the pedal still needs to be down. You can’t let your guard down in this game, ever. You’ve got to ride it while you’re hot, and that’s what I’m going to try to do.”

Japan Golf Tour – ANA Open Golf Tournament

JGTO veteran Hideto Tanihara overcame a three-shot deficit to win the ANA Open Golf Tournament on Sunday, securing his second victory of the season and bringing his career tally to 19. The 44-year-old Tanihara shot a flawless five-under-par 67, featuring five birdies, in the final round for an 18-under-par total of 270  at the Sapporo Golf Club in Hokkaido Prefecture.

This was one shot ahead of South Korea's Song Young-han (67) and Koshiro Maeda (66). Shugo Imahira and Hirotaro Naito carded 68 and 66, respectively, to share fourth with a 16-under-par 272. Overnight leader Junichiro Kozuma managed only a 74 after taking a one-shot lead into the final round, settling for a tied eighth position with a total of 274.

The day clearly belonged to Tanihara, who continued to prove he remains one of the JGTO's finest, still giving his younger rivals a run for their money. Tanihara pulled off another come-from-behind victory, much like his previous triumph at the JAPAN PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP by Sato Syokuhin in June. Then, he overturned a two-shot lead held by 23-year-old Taiga Semikawa, before defeating another young contender, 20-year-old Taiga Nagano, in a playoff.

"Another come-from-behind victory... truly remarkable. Lately, I've been pulling off wins I hadn't anticipated," he remarked.

Challenge Tour – Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos

Marco Penge produced a dominant display on the final day of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos to secure a maiden win on the European Challenge Tour. The Englishman, who started the day one stroke behind overnight leader Andrew Wilson, carded a two under par final round 70 in testing conditions, to go with rounds of 65-68-69 to reach 16 under par for the week. He finished four shots clear of Italian Lorenzo Scalise and American Julian Suri who shared second on 12 under par.

The 25-year-old climbs 42 places to 19th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings with just four events of the season remaining. With the top 20 after the season-ending Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by the R&A securing promotion to the DP World Tour, he was delighted to win at such an important time of the year.

“I don't think I realise what I've just achieved,” he said. “I'm absolutely buzzing. I feel like my game has been trending in the right direction for quite a while. I feel like I'm a lot better player this year than I was last year, but the results weren't showing that. You don't win much in golf, but when you do, there isn’t a better feeling.

“Promotion to the DP World Tour is what I’m playing the game for. If you can win on the Challenge Tour, you can win on the DP World Tour in my opinion.

Sunshine Tour – VOG Western Cape

Kyle Barker claimed his second Sunshine Tour title this year when he won the Vodacom Origins of Golf in a playoff at the Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate on Sunday. Barker produced a strong final round of 65 and finished tied for the lead with Pieter Moolman on 10 under par 203 Barker then birdied the first playoff hole as Moolman parred. Martin Rohwer finished third on eight under par.

It was a thrilling finish to a tournament Moolman seemed destined to win having led after day one and then taking a commanding six-stroke lead into the final round, and with Barker starting seven shots off the lead.

“I was seven shots behind and I knew I had to do something special. I made six birdies on that front nine and it really helped me. Nothing wanted to drop on the back nine but I hit top quality golf shots. Then I finished the 18th and we thought I’d won and my friend had already sprayed champagne on me, and I’d had a few sips. But there was a mistake on the leaderboard and then I was told Pieter had made birdie on the last to take it to a playoff. So I had to get to the tee for the playoff. Luckily I made a great birdie there,” said Barker.

Alps Tour Golf – Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open

Ronan Mullarney, 28 years old from Ireland, captures his second win of the season at the 2023 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open after three rounds without a single bogey and a 9-shot margin! He shot a final round of 5 under-par, 66 with 5 birdies. He turned professional in 2019 and won his 1st full-field professional event at the 31st Gösser Open earlier this year.

This is his 1st full playing season on the Alps Tour and after today’s win, he became the new Order of Merit leader heading into the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final. After his 3rd bogey-free round, which sealed his win, Mullarney commented, “I’m delighted. It was good, it might not have looked stressful but trust me, it was extremely stressful. Today was by far the best I’ve played. The first 2 rounds, my short game saved me, but today I was very comfortable and I played well.”

He looked very comfortable on the golf course but Mullarney thought differently, “I might have looked very in control but there are so many stories of people throwing away leads that it’s never hugely comfortable.” After his fabulous week, he secured his Challenge Tour card for the 2024 season, which was a big priority for him, “Yeah, securing my card for the Challenge Tour was a big goal of mine. It’s my 3rd year as a pro and my 1st year on the Alps Tour so definitely things this year have gone a lot smoother than the 1st few years, so I supposed it’s part of the learning process.”

Mullarney heads into the 2023 Alps Tour Grand Final, 1st in the Order of Merit rank, and knowing he has his card secured, however, “I’m really competitive, I’m definitely will be heading to Asolo Golf Club trying to grab another trophy. I’ll be playing a pro-am in Spain next week and then will prepare for the Final.”
