PGA Tour - Hero World Challenge

Scottie Scheffler has made great gains in his putting. Add that to the rest of his top-ranked game, and he made it look easy Sunday. He closed with a 4-under 68 for a three-shot victory in the Hero World Challenge.

Scheffler, a runner-up in the Bahamas the last two years, played bogey-free at Albany Golf Club and didn’t let anyone get closer than two shots on the back nine as he ended the year with his fifth victory worldwide. Scheffler solidified his spot at No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Scheffler led the PGA TOUR in just about every important statistical category — Off The Tee, Approach the Green — until he got onto the putting surface. He sought help from highly regarded putting coach Phil Kenyon and is starting to see immediate results. “I played solid and kept my distance,” Scheffler said. “I was just trying to hit good shots and get as many looks as I could for birdies.”

Scheffler had not played since the Ryder Cup — this was his first 72-hole tournament since the TOUR Championship in late August. He said he was optimistic about the work he put in with Kenyon before the Ryder Cup.

“It’s nice to see some fast results,” Scheffler said. “It’s paid off pretty good this week.”

PGA Tour of Australasia & DP World Tour - ISPS HANDA Australian Open

Joaquin Niemann beat Rikuya Hoshino in a sudden death play-off to become the first South American winner of the ISPS HANDA Australian Open. The Chilean holed a seven-foot eagle putt across the 18th green on the second extra hole as rain began to fall to win the Stonehaven Cup at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney on Sunday.

Niemann, who began the final day four shots adrift of overnight co-leader Hoshino, posted a five-under-par 66 to set the clubhouse target at 14 under which was later matched by the Japanese as he carded a one under 70.

Both players made birdie on the first play-off hole at the 18th, with Hoshino getting up an down from a greenside bunker before Niemann saw an eagle putt from five feet slide past. Despite Hoshino again doing well to make a birdie after going bunker to bunker for the second time in succession, Niemann sealed victory after another fine approach shot. The win for Niemann is his first on the DP World Tour and sees him become just the second Chilean to do so after Felipe Aguilar.

"It was a nice day. These last two playoff holes showed how I have been playing the last few weeks here in Australia," said Niemann.

"My putting hasn't been the best, but I've been working hard on it and it was nice to make that last putt.

"I always practise those three, four, five-feet ones and know that one of those will be to win a tournament. It's amazing."

Sunshine Tour & DP World Tour - Investec South African Open Championship

Dean Burmester made it back-to-back DP World Tour victories on home soil after producing a stunning 68 on Sunday to win the Investec South African Open Championship by three shots. The South African went into the final round two shots off the lead but battled his way to the top of the leaderboard after making three birdies and a single bogey in tricky scoring conditions on the front nine.

Burmester, who won last week's Joburg Open by three shots, dropped another shot after missing the green on the par-three 11th but bounced back with gains on the 12th, 16th and 17th to move three clear with one hole remaining.

And he survived a scare at the 18th to card a par there and finish on 11 under par, making an immediate return to the winner's circle by winning his home Open for the first time and claiming a fourth DP World Tour title.

Home favourite Ryan van Velzen, Italian Renato Paratore and Swede Jesper Svensson finished in a tie for second on eight under. Burmester had looked in danger of missing the cut or even pulling out after feeling unwell on Friday, but made it through to the weekend on the number after shooting a 74.

And he took full advantage with a 65 on Saturday before keeping his foot on the gas in the final round to clinch the title. He said: "Back-to-back! I've never done that before so that was special. "It's obviously one as a South African that I've always wanted to win. "To be involved in this tournament and to win it, with a bank that used to sponsor me and got me off the ground when I was just a kid, is super special. "So to be the SA Open champion is something I'll never forget. "It's a tournament I watched growing up and I watched a lot of legends."

Japan Golf Tour - Golf Nippon Series JT Cup

Semikawa takes down Nakajima and Kanaya to end season on a high. Taiga Semikawa wrapped up his JGTO season in style with a second title after narrowly defeating Keita Nakajima and Takumi Kanaya by one shot in the final round of the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Semikawa shot a two-under-par 68 to finish at 15-under 265 at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club, securing his second victory following the Kansai Open earlier in April. Kanaya and Nakajima closed with 67 and 69 respectively to share runner-up positions, while South Korea's Song Young-han finished with a 68 to sit solo fourth at 12-under.

Semikawa's victory marked the conclusion of his second successive season on the Tour with multiple wins. Last year, he sensationally won the Panasonic Open and Japan Open, both as an amateur. Semikawa was pleased to return to the winners' circle after eight months, which he described as a "long wait."

"It's been eight months since my first professional win, and although I've been close a few times, it felt like a long wait, making it hard to envision a win this week. So, this victory comes as a delightful surprise, and I'm truly elated," said Semikawa.

Asian Tour - Taiwan Glass Taifong Open

Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai cantered to a four-shot victory in the US$400,000 Taiwan Glass Taifong Open today to secure his first victory on the Asian Tour.

The Asian Tour rookie, who had a two-stroke lead at the start of the day, shot a fine four-under-par 68 to finish on 19-under here at Taifong Golf Club – in the second from last event of the season on the Asian Tour.

Thailand’s Atiruj Winaicharoenchai fired a 66 to finish second with Malaysian Shahriffuddin Ariffin who came in with a 69. It is the best performance by both players on the Asian Tour. Pavit Tangkamolprasert from Thailand and Korean Seungtaek Lee tied for fourth, after they both returned 68s.

Five birdies in a row from the third set up Suteepat for the win and allowed him to stroll to victory exactly one year after he came second in this event to wrap up the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit (OOM). The tournament was making its debut on the Asian Tour this week.

Thirty-year-old Suteepat, a professional since 2017, burst onto the scene last year with three ADT wins, all in Indonesia, which helped earn him his place on the Asian Tour as the top-10 finishers from the OOM secured their cards.

He had enjoyed as strong debut season on the main Tour with five top-20 finishes before putting the icing on the cake today.

“Really happy, I love this place,” said Suteepat, who won US$72,000 and leapt into 24th place on the Asian Tour OOM, from 53rd.

“I won the ADT title here, I got my Asian Tour card from here, yeah, I love it. I just stuck to my game plan and my putter got really hot with those five birdies in row. None of the putts were short really, the shortest was 10 feet.”

Asian Development Tour - Saudi Aramco Invitational

Thailand’s Denwit Boriboonsub clinched the Aramco Invitational Tournament in Saudi Arabia today, beating England’s William Harrold in a playoff at Rolling Hills Golf Club after the pair were tied for the lead after 72 holes.

The win for Denwit, who overcame a poor start to force himself back into contention in the final round, was also enough to clinch victory in the season-long Order of Merit table and be the first to claim an Asian Tour card for next season.

And the boosted prize money at the US$250,000 Asian Development Tour event meant that Harrold, who began the day in 21st place on the OOM list, was also successful in securing his card for next year, eventually finishing in fourth spot.

Professional Golf Tour of India - Kapil Dev - Grant Thornton Invitational presented by DLF

Karan Pratap Singh fired a steady final round of two-under 70 to prevail by two shots at the INR 2 crore Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational 2023 presented by DLF played at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram.

Gurugram’s Karan Pratap Singh (68-71-70) mastered the conditions at his home course in the third and last round to end up with the winning total of seven-under 209. Karan thus bagged his second career title, also his second of the season and bagged the winning cheque worth INR 30 lakh that pushed him up three spots to second place in the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking as his season’s earnings reached INR 72,33,173. The winner also earned himself a Skoda Slavia car.

Karan Pratap Singh, who was overnight tied second and one off the lead, had a steady start on Saturday being one-under after three holes. The 23-year-old who turned pro in 2019, then dropped a bogey on the sixth but bounced back with a birdie on the eighth, something he managed to do through the week.

An erratic tee shot on the 11th saw Singh take a penalty drop that resulted in a bogey and he was in some sort of trouble at that stage. But Karan made a crucial par putt from 20 feet on the 14th that changed the course of the match. He then scored two more birdies on the 15th and 18th, converting a 10-footer on the latter, to walk away with the trophy.
