PGA Tour - Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Seamus Power did enough right and left all the mistakes to PGA TOUR rookie Ben Griffin on Sunday to win the Butterfield Bermuda Championship for his second TOUR title.

Power took the lead for good with a 25-foot birdie putt at the 14th. A bogey on the final hole gave the Irishman a 1-under 70 and a one-shot victory over Thomas Detry, who earlier holed a bunker shot on the 18th for birdie and a 67.

But it was Griffin who had the best chance. He started the back nine at Port Royal with back-to-back birdies, putting him at 5 under for the day and with a two-shot lead over Power. And then it all fell apart. Griffin bogeyed four straight holes, followed by a double bogey on the par-3 16th that effectively ended his chances.

The turning point came at the 14th when Griffin hooked his tee shot, had to take a penalty drop and make his third straight bogey, while Power holed his birdie putt for a two-shot swing and his first lead of the day.

Both made bogey on the 15th. Griffin hit a hard draw into a strong wind that went into the hazard above the Atlantic Ocean, leading to another penalty drop and another missed putt for a double bogey.

“This course was always going to be a tale of two sides,” Power said. “I knew it was going to be hard coming in and it was. I'm delighted to get it done.”

Power won last year at the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky, held the same week as The Open Championship. This victory moves him to No. 32 in the world. He came into Bermuda at No. 48, the highest-ranked player in the field.

DP World Tour - Portugal Masters

Jordan Smith storms to a stunning wire-to-wire win in Portugal. Jordan Smith produced a tremendous display of frontrunning to claim his second DP World Tour title with a sensational three-shot victory at the 2022 Portugal Masters.

The Englishman went into the final round with a two-shot lead and rarely looked like opening the door for the chasing pack on Sunday, treating the crowds to a ball-striking masterclass as he made an eagle and six birdies in a flawless 63 to finish the tournament on 30 under par.

Smith's wire-to-wire victory caps a superb 2022 season and sees him move into the top ten on the DP World Tour Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and return to the winner's circle for the first time since the 2017 Porsche European Open.

His winning total is one better than the DP World Tour record, set by Ernie Els at the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic, but due to preferred lies this week Smith's tally does not go into the record books.

Japan Golf Tour -Heiwa PGM Championship

Penultimate stage leader Rikuya Hoshino dominated the proceedings after closing with a bogey-free 63 to win his sixth JGTO title by five shots at the PGM Ishioka Golf Club in Ibaraki.

Hoshino marked his opening five holes with three birdies to turn in 32 and never looked back since.

After the turn, he gained two more strokes on the 12th and 15th holes before capping a glorious day with an eagle on the par-five 16th.

“This is indeed a special victory for me as it was won in my hometown. I came close on several occasions (winning) this year and I finally managed to do it in front of my friends and family today. I hope with this latest victory, I can go on to win even more titles,” said Hoshino.

Kim, the reigning JGTO money list winner, rattled off four straight birdies from the 11th to reach six-under for the day, raising hopes of turning the table on Hoshino as he was trailing by just three shots at that point.

But his momentum came to halt almost immediately when he bogeyed the 15th hole.

Kim redeemed the loss stroke back with a seventh birdie of the day on hole 17, but it could do nothing to stop Hoshino from cruising to victory.

Sunshine Tour - Vodacom Origins of Golf Final

Combrinck Smit added his name to an impressive list of Sunshine Tour stars who have all won on the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series as he clinched the Final of this year’s series in a playoff at the Pinnacle Point Estate on Sunday.

Smit overcame a double-bogey on the 16th in regulation play and then battled through a sudden-death playoff against the experienced Jake Redman to claim victory.

With his win on this series, Smit joins the likes of Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Dean Burmester, George Coetzee, Justin Harding, Thriston Lawrence and a host of other Sunshine Tour stars to have won a Vodacom Origins of Golf title.

“It’s never a great thing playing against a good friend and such a great guy as Jake in a playoff. But somebody has to win and thank goodness it could be me,” said Smit.

He started the final round with a one-stroke lead and admits it was a hard day on the fairways, which began with a bogey at the first and then included that double bogey on the par-five 16th.

“I don’t really know what happened today. There were some surprising shots out there. I’ve clipped the fynbos quite a couple of times this week and I was a bit shocked after the 16th. But I just told myself to keep going and that I still had a great chance to win the tournament. I got it done in the end,” said a relieved Smit, who also wins a Jaguar F Type for use until the end of the 2022/23 season.
