PGA Tour - John Deere Classic

Sepp Straka won the John Deere Classic on Sunday with a final-round 9-under 62 that could have been much better, making double bogey on the final hole but taking the title by two shots when Brendon Todd and Alex Smalley were unable to catch him.

The 30-year-old Austrian who played in college at Georgia won for the second time on the PGA TOUR, moved to No. 27 in the world and increased his chances of representing Europe in the Ryder Cup this fall in Rome. He shot 73 on Thursday but followed with rounds of 63, 65 and 62.

“At my best, I do feel like I can compete with anybody. Obviously the last three days I could have competed with just about anybody in the world, but growing up I never would have thought I would have a chance to even play on the PGA TOUR,” Straka said. This is all just a big dream come true."

DP World Tour - Made in HimmerLand

Home favourite Rasmus Højgaard won Made in HimmerLand 2023 in a six-hole play-off to become the tournament's first Danish winner in its last ever staging at HimmerLand. Højgaard held off Nacho Elvira after coming from seven shots behind to finish level with the Spaniard on 13 under par.

“I’m speechless at the moment," Højgaard said afterwards. "To be fair, I didn’t think I’d end up in a play-off – it’s quite amazing. To win a home event, it’s amazing. “It isn’t that long ago that I was one of those kids trying to get balls and signed gloves, so it’s cool to see them out here supporting us. “This is better than I could ever dream of. We’ve wanted a Danish winner for so long now, so to be the first one to do it is amazing.”

It was Højgaard's fourth DP World Tour win and extended his perfect record in play-offs, having won the 2019 AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open and the following year’s ISPS HANDA UK Championship in the same manner.

Challenge Tour - Italian Challenge Open

Matteo Manassero secured a memorable second European Challenge Tour title on home soil at the Italian Challenge Open. The four-time DP World Tour winner held a two-shot advantage heading into the final round and a five under par round of 67 meant he finished 21 under and three clear of Englishman Will Enefer, sparking emotional scenes on the 18th green at Golf Nazionale.

Manassero, the youngest winner in DP World Tour history, picked up his maiden Challenge Tour title at the Copenhagen Challenge presented by Ejner Hessel earlier this year and following a second triumph in his native Italy this week, has made giant strides towards making a heroic return to Europe’s top tier. Manassero moves into his best position in the Official World Golf Ranking now ranked 349th.

“It feels amazing,” he said. “My goal this year was to win more than once. I won in Copenhagen to return to the winner’s circle and it’s so special to prove that I can do it again. “Coming into the week I wasn’t feeling great, but this is a special week and it has brought the best out in me. I am so happy that I have managed to get it done and now I am in a great position on the Rankings.”

Asian Development Tour & All Thailand Golf Tour - ADT - All Thailand Partnership Trophy

Thailand’s Kosuke Hamamoto held his nerve and secured victory in the ADT All Thailand Partnership Trophy on Sunday, his clubhouse lead of 13 under was enough to win despite finishing with five of the leading groups still out on the course.

Starting the day in 12th place on seven under par, Kosuke opened with five birdies in his front nine, and once play restarted after several delays due to rain and lightning storms, he just needed to pick up one more shot on his back nine to keep his nose in front.

In second place, Settee Prakongvech also shot a six-under-par 65 but had to settle for finishing one shot back at 12 under with fellow Thais Witchayapat Sinsrang and Waris Manthorn. Waris, who led the first two rounds at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya, was in contention during the final day but a bogey on the last hole denied him a chance at a playoff.

Played on the Mountain and Ocean courses at the 27-hole Pattaya venue, this inaugural co-sanctioned event between the Asian Development Tour and the All Thailand Golf Tour offered a prize fund of THB3 million.

Big Easy Tour - Altron Big Easy Tour 1

Nicholas Frade showed some big-match temperament on Thursday as he claimed a come-from-behind victory after the first playoff hole in the final round of the season-opening Altron Big Easy Tournament at Randpark Golf Club.

Along with Pecanwood Golf Estate’s Slade Pickering and Vryburg Golf Club’s Leon Vorster, Frade finished the tournament on 14-under-par in regulation, necessitating a playoff to decide the winner of this first event of the new season.

Coming into the final round, the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington golfer was two shots off Leon Vorster and Allister de Kock’s lead and knew that an unrelenting push in the closing round would give him a fair chance at victory. As he had done in the previous round, Frade was meticulous and deliberate in every shot he played, resulting in a second successive five-under 67 which placed him in a three-way share of the lead with Vorster and Pickering.

Vorster manufactured a beautiful shot out of the trees to find the green while Pickering’s second ball landed on the fringe behind the green. Pickering’s third shot was well-weighted and stopped half a meter from the flag. Vorster also failed to make a birdie with his third shot, leaving Frade with a glorious opportunity to make a birdie and claim the win.

“I’m super ecstatic,” said an elated Frade. “Last year I came close to winning a few Big Easy tournaments but today I got it done. This is the first time I went three rounds in the 60s in a tournament. I thought to myself if I can post three rounds in the 60s, I could get it done. Luckily, it got me into the playoff and made a nice birdie for the win.

ProGolf Tour - Gradi Polish Open by Emeralld

The 30-year-old from Biarritz started the final on Friday together with his French compatriot Aubin Lacaze (T6 at the end) with a cushion of four strokes. However, a nervous start with eight pars was not enough to stay ahead in the best scoring conditions on the perfectly prepared Parkland course near Wroclaw.

After the shaky start, though, the Frenchman got back on track and took the lead again with birdies on the ninth, eleventh and 15th holes, which he successfully defended with three pars at the end. After two impressive rounds of 63, a solid 67 was enough in the final to win by a razor-thin margin of one stroke at 17 under par. Hard to believe: On the way to his first victory on the Pro Golf Tour, Elissalde did not suffer a single stroke loss over the three tournament days.

"It is already extremely difficult to play a round without bogeys," he analysed. "The fact that I made it through a whole tournament really leaves me speechless. I played very well especially in rounds one and two. Today it wasn't that strong, but I had some luck and a really strong short game." His recipe for success: a defensive game strategy. Driver was only used four times per round.

"I've already noticed an improvement the past two weeks, but the fact that I played so well really surprised me," added the winner of the €5,000 winner's cheque. One stroke back, Owen Edwards (Wales) and the German duo of Tom Büschges and Jan Schneider share second place on 16 under par.
