Kevin Yu’s week started at the Sanderson Farms Championship with his dad, Tommy Yu, trying to park in a past champion parking space. Japan Golf Tour - ACN Championship Golf Tournament

Takumi Kanaya staged a sensational comeback by firing a final round eight-under-par 63 to force a playoff with South Korea’s Ryu Hyun-woo before taking down the South Korean veteran to win the ACN Championship Golf Tournament with a birdie in the first playoff hole on Sunday.

The 26-year-old started the day five shots off the lead but hauled his way back into contention by firing eight birdies in a blemish-free card to deny Ryu of his third JGTO win at the Miki Country Club.

“I thought that if I didn’t make a lot of birdies, I wouldn’t be able to catch up with the leader. However, I believed that if I could play my own game, I could put myself into contention again. I managed to do that and win the playoff, which was great!” said Kanaya.

Sunshine Tour - SunBet Challenge hosted by Sun Sibaya

Normally this season when Danie van Tonder has put pressure on the leader in the final round, things have headed south for the frontrunner, but on Friday, Luke Jerling held his nerve to claim his maiden Sunshine Tour title as he won the SunBet Challenge hosted by Sun Sibaya at Umhlali Country Club.

Jerling fired a fantastic three-under-par 68 on Friday to finish on 13-under-par, beating Van Tonder, who closed with a 70, by four strokes in the end. But their gripping duel was much more closely fought than the final winning margin suggests, with Van Tonder, who began the day two behind, drawing level on the 13th hole.

“It feels unbelievable to have finally won. There were times when I never thought this day would come and you wonder if you can get over the line,” a delighted Jerling said. “I haven’t been in this position for a while and going toe-to-toe with Danie was something I really enjoyed for the whole day.
