Viktor Hovland Overcomes Swing Struggles to Claim the Valspar Championship Moving Back Inside the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking
News for the 11 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments
PGA Tour - Valspar Championship
In a stunning turn of events, Viktor Hovland captured the Valspar Championship title on Sunday, despite admitting he had "no idea" how he managed to do it. Battling a turbulent period with his swing, which led to him working with five different coaches since his 2023 FedExCup victory, Hovland entered the tournament with low expectations, even questioning whether he would play.
His victory, however, was marked by a series of clutch shots, most notably a 7-iron from 186 yards to within five feet on the challenging 16th hole. Trailing Justin Thomas by three shots with five holes remaining, Hovland rallied with three crucial birdies, culminating in a 4-under 67 and a one-shot victory.
"It’s been quite the struggle the past year-and-a-half," Hovland said, expressing disbelief at his win. His performance included overcoming a missed cut streak, including an 80 at the Players Championship, and a general lack of confidence in his game. Hovland's late surge included a pivotal birdie on the par-5 14th, followed by his remarkable approach on 16 and another birdie on 17. Thomas, who led by three, faltered with a bogey on 16 and another on 18, allowing Hovland to secure the win.
Hovland finished at 11-under 273, earning his seventh career victory and re-entering the world's top 10.
The victory was unexpected, given his recent struggles, and Hovland himself acknowledged the unpredictable nature of golf.

DP World Tour - Porsche Singapore Classic
England's Richard Mansell secured his first DP World Tour title with a dramatic birdie finish at the weather-shortened Porsche Singapore Classic. The tournament, reduced to 54 holes, saw Mansell, who began the final round one shot off the lead, deliver a stunning performance at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.
A series of five consecutive birdies early in his round propelled him to the front, but Keita Nakajima’s strong finish put pressure on Mansell. With the lead shared, Mansell held his nerve, sinking a clutch six-foot putt on the 18th hole for a decisive birdie, finishing at 16 under par. Nakajima finished one shot behind in second place. Mansell attributed his success to a combination of focused play and the support of his new caddie, David Kenny, and his wife, Ellie.

PGA Tour of Australasia - Heritage Classic
A gripping final round at the Heritage Classic saw James Conran emerge victorious, securing his first Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia title with a dramatic one-shot win. The New South Wales golfer, son of tour veteran Steve Conran, triumphed over Victorian Nathan Page in a tense finish.
Conran's decisive birdie on the 18th hole, following a stunning wedge approach, sealed a 22-under-par total. His final round of 7-under 65 proved too much for Page, who carded a 67 in front of his home crowd.
The day was marked by a series of impressive performances, with Jordan Doull finishing third at 19-under, and several players making late surges into the top five, including Andrew Martin and Anthony Quayle. Conran's round featured three eagles, but also a late wobble, losing a two-shot lead with bogeys on 16 and 17. However, he regained his composure on the final hole, delivering a near-perfect approach.
"If you told me that at the start of the week, I would’ve told you you’re lying or crazy," said Conran, reflecting on his victory. The win provides him with crucial tour status, offering stability for the upcoming seasons.

Asian Development Tour - Lexus Challenge
Aidric Chan of the Philippines secured his maiden Asian Development Tour (ADT) victory in a thrilling final round at the Lexus Challenge, overcoming compatriot Juvic Pagunsan in a dramatic finish. The pair's intense battle unfolded largely unnoticed by the overnight leaders, Sweden's Filip Lundell and England's Sam Broadhurst, who faltered on the back nine.
Chan's remarkable recovery from a 12th-hole double bogey, highlighted by an eagle on the 14th, propelled him into contention. Despite a late wobble, Chan's par on the 18th secured him the clubhouse lead at eight-under-par, a score neither Lundell nor Broadhurst could match. Broadhurst's missed five-foot birdie putt on the final hole sealed Chan's victory.
Chan and Pagunsan both carded impressive 67s, but it was Chan who ultimately prevailed, claiming his first international win. "I feel really great," said Chan, "It was a tight battle and a really good challenge."
The victory propels Chan to third place in the ADT Order of Merit, behind Pagunsan and leader Tawit Polthai. A trio of Thai golfers finished tied for fifth, while first-round leader Shotaro Ban slipped to 11th.
